Cancellation

Season 2 Episode 11b, Orphan Substitute, wasn't actually meant to be the last episode in the entire series, although the actual reason why it got cut short aren't crystal clear. A rumor that spread around (and that I believed for a while) said the show was cancelled due to 9/11 and Orphan Substitute's main focus on making fun of George W. Bush. What really happened is that Dave Wasson, creator and main writer for Time Squad, explained that it was cancelled due to corporate budget cuts.

According to co-writer Carlos Ramos, CN had told them the episode would never air, yet surprisingly he received a residual check for the episode years later, meaning it aired somewhere. (source)

A third season of TS was also reportedly in the works when it got cancelled. It is unlikely this show will ever air on CN ever again, much less get rebooted. Since its cancellation, references to the show have appeared multiple times on official Cartoon Network media, including:
  • Cartoon Network 20th Anniversary poster (2012)
  • Time Squad cameo on Villanous Orientation Videos for Villains (2017)
  • Larry's petrified head in OK K.O.!'s Crossover Nexus (2018)
  • Tuddrussel Cosmetic on Kleptocats: Cartoon Network (2019)
  • Tudd and Larry cameo on Jellystone!'s Crisis on Infinite Mirths (2025)
Weirdly enough, most of these references include Tuddrussel and Larry, but not Otto.
