a fullbody illustration of diane, an anthropomorphic bluebird wearing a mask, pink hoodie and dark purple pants.
Diane's signature.
  • Full name: Diane Peranza
  • Age: You don't ask a lady that!
  • Gender: Transed
  • Species: Mountain bluebird
  • Hours slept daily: 2.4

The world's unluckiest woman, at least from her perspective. Despite leading a mundane life, Diane can't help but get into huge messes where she can't catch a break.

AUTHOR THOUGHTS

She's the world's cutest girl! For a while, Diane existed as nothing but a "blank slate". My friend called her a 'husk', devoid of any interesting personality traits, hobbies or even a defined job. But, eventually, little by little, I added more to her character and story. I'm really happy with how she's turning out nowadays, and I hope it's clear that Mystery Eclipse's end is not the end of her story. She has a lot more to go through, both good and bad. One must keep fighting, after all...

TRIVIA

  • While Diane can bake very well, she's not very skilled at cooking anything else.
  • Diane has a sailor's mouth. I've tried to show this more and more as the comic goes on.
  • She's possibly the most normal out of everybody in the main cast by a long shot.
  • The plot caught her on laundry day. She usually wears prettier clothes.
  • Nobody knows how she can afford that huge treehouse while working a job with an average income of ~50k dollars a year.

A fullbody illustration of Sam, an anthropomorphic blueish cat wearing a yellow striped shirt, green jacket and dark blue pants. He is looking to the side sticking his tongue out.
Sam's signature.
  • Full name: Sam [REDACTED]
  • Age: (Presumably) close to Diane's
  • Gender: Kitty cat...?
  • No. of countries wanted in: 58.5
  • Nationality: Italian...? Maybe Argentinian. I'm not really sure.

Sam is many things at once, including but not limited to: A space obsessed hyperactive kitty cat; A physical, psychological and emotional anomaly; A trickster, a jester, a fool; and Diane's best friend.

AUTHOR THOUGHTS

Sam is undefinable, end of story. He's a slippery little rascal, his purposefully contradicting character traits making it hard to fit him anywhere neatly. He's a lot of fun to write, both inside and outside the comic. He's also my go-to model for experimentation and trying out new art styles. Everything you assume, think or say about him is simultaneously canon and non-canon. His past is a complete mystery to everyone, including me. Maybe he had some kind of traumatic event or he knows he's not real. Then again, he could also just be some guy who's trying to mess with people for the fun of it. Who knows? :3c

TRIVIA

  • Nothing I say about Sam is canon.
  • Nothing YOU say about Sam is canon.
  • Sam has escaped the digital realm and now exists as a puppet in our world.
  • Has never been seen cooking.
  • None of the above are true statements.

A fullybody illustration of Shiko, a green one-eyed alien. He is staring at the camera with no expression.
Text reading 'Shiko'
  • Full Name: Shiko [Unknown]
  • Gender: [Unknown]
  • Marketability: 0%
  • Species: Of extraterrestrial origin
  • Minecraft account status: Cracked

He's an alien. That's it.

Apparently he's got a personal site..?

AUTHOR THOUGHTS

Shiko is the first of the MyEc cast I created, and therefore he's gone through the most changes (in personality, that is). I don't know how to exactly feel about Shiko; he's fun to write, but I rarely draw him. He's funniest when he has other characters to bounce off of, especially already comedic characters like Sam. Compared to his 2020-2022 characterization (visible in chapters 1, 2 and the first half of 3), modern Shiko is more... stoic? He's not 'serious', particularly, he just doesn't really understand... much. Or doesn't care about it. He just wants to go back home.

TRIVIA

  • Shiko was one of my first ever OCs and has therefore gone through the most changes. Mostly plot-related, though.
  • Speaking of changes, he used to have 'cool' ambiguous powers and a pseudo dark form.
  • His species used to be 'Monster' instead of Alien. No clue what that would imply in-universe nowadays.
  • Shiko once starred in an indie film. Grossly overbudget, it was a financial disaster that led to the studio closing down.
  • He does not remember this.

Whatever doodles and art I have of Shiko are either too old to put up here, or too ridiculous to even begin to explain.

A fullbody illustration of Millie, an anthropomorphic orange dog wearing a fedora and trench coat.
Millie's signature.
  • Full name: Millie Flórez-Suwhey
  • Age: Early-Mid 40's (in dog years)
  • Gender: Dame
  • Species: Golden Retriever Border Collie mix
  • Favorite film noir: Detour (1945)

Millie is a short-fused, noir-obsessed, sleep-deprived and extremely stressed out hard-boiled forty something private investigator. Worst of all, she's used to this state of being and thinks it's perfectly normal.

Millie has no web site. She's never used a computer.

AUTHOR THOUGHTS

Millie's a favorite of mine to write about. I mean, come on! I love detectives, I love film noir and I love characters that are messed up in the head; what were you expecting? My two biggest inspirations for the personality and general characteristics are Inspector Zenigata (Lupin III) and Sam (Sam & Max), plus any other loud mouthed, gruff-with-a-heart-of-gold characters you may or may not have heard of (Ace Hart, Inspector Vergier, Dick Gumshoe and maaaybe a little bit of *cough* Ishimaru & Oowada *cough* in there).

TRIVIA

  • Millie has zero volume control, and is therefore the greatest company for places like chapels and funerals.
  • Her favorite smell is lavender. She doesn't like saying why.
  • Was taught to play the piano as a kid, though she's still learning jazz theory.
  • Cannot stand the sound of gunfire or any loud sounds for that matter.
  • Actually cooks very well, despite a lot of her meals consisting of just brandy.

  • Full name: Daisy Flórez-Suwhey
  • Age: Mid-Late 40's
  • Gender: It's complicated
  • Species: Western grey squirrel
  • Languages fluent in: Python, Javascript, C++, C#, Java, Malbolge and Loading Bars

A florist by day and a programmer by night, Daisy is a good old-fashioned computer nerd with a sense of humor that borders on the line of what might be criminal confessions.

AUTHOR THOUGHTS

Another favorite to write about, Daisy is probably the character I relate the most to. We share an interest in computers and programming, we're both butchy nerds (or would that be nerdy butches?) and we both feel admiration towards our PCs... alongside other emotions. I am 100% serious when I say creating her has positively impacted my life. He's probably the most capable character in the entire webcomic.

TRIVIA

  • Band kid; can do a nasty jazz solo on the saxophone.
  • Always smells like lavender, despite working with countless other types of flowers.
  • Has a gun license.
  • Her 'main' computer is a Zenith Eazy PC, a 'beauty' she takes very good care of.
  • Loves joking about murdering a man and burying his body, every time adding more and more weirdly specific details about the 'funny story'.
